Yes, election topics are sure to be a hit!

I actually got lucky initally and CTV contacted me for an interview about the topic of the date 11-11-11.  I think they were searching for local numerologists.  After that, they kept calling me about other timely topics like Friday the 13th and Mercury in Retrograde.  I recently hired a publicist so she's taking care of all the connections now.  So really, I'm not sure how to go about pitching, in the technical sense. I just know from speaking to producers and show hosts that HOT and TIMELY sells.  I did end up creating a direct connection to one of the CTV producers who emails me directly now.  So, I guess I would suggest trying to connect with a local producer of a show you'd like to pitch to.  Interestingly, at least here in Canada, some of the hosts are also producers of the show to some degree (associate producer, etc).

Great advice! I have been think about that very thing and thing I've come up with some ways to tie my message into the election conversation.  I have a feeling that's going to dominate the media from now until November.

What do you find to be the best way to attract local media? Phone, press release, email?  Who do you like to address in your contact media format? Producer, editor, etc?

Thanks, Sondra! Well, I've learned that your pitch needs to be timely. Whatever you're pitching, tie it into current local events that are the hot topics. I think it's a bit easier for me with numerology because I can pretty much analyze any current event through the numbers and tweak the story to fit the top local news. But definitely, keep it TIMELY and they'll be more likely to bite.
