Michael R. Jennings replied to jeff herman's discussion WHO HERE SELF-PUBLISHES? in the group Romance
"My romance novel has been out on the streets for a month now with about forty sales.  There is no question that the majority of those sales have been to family, friends, etc. (much like Marilyn's sales).  Marketing, of course, is the…"

Michael R. Jennings replied to jeff herman's discussion WHAT DO YOU FIND FRUSTRATING ABOUT GETTING PUBLISHED? in the group Fiction
"The whole route one has to take by going the "traditional" way is discerning, time-consuming and, as you know well, takes forever from query to actual publication. Even the query letter can be daunting and requires an over-abundance of…"

"Kemberlee, you ruffled no religious feathers at all.  It was simply a discussion of the influences that play a part in our writings. I know better than to get into any religious discussions on these sites -- they can get uncomfortably heated.…"

Michael R. Jennings replied to jeff herman's discussion DO ROMANCE NOVELS TEND TO EMPOWER MEN OR WOMEN? in the group Romance
"Gees, Kemberlee, does that mean that my romance novel, written by a man (that would be me) mean that it will empower men?  I'm going to take an educated guess that both sexes will feel equally empowered by my novel (June/July release).…"

Michael R. Jennings replied to jeff herman's discussion MEN VS. WOMEN in the group Romance

Simon & Schuster Remarks on Self-Publishing

Posted on December 19, 2011 at 8:12pm 0 Comments

Carolyn Reidy, CEO of S&S, acknowledges one of the year's significant developments, as well as S&S's response in remarks to employees: "As self-publishing becomes a more viable option for new and established authors, now more than ever we must continue to do everything in our power to make the publishing experience for Simon & Schuster’s authors the best it can be, and to add value over and above our core editorial, marketing, and distribution functions.…

While I belong to a number of other "writing" sites, I'm still looking for that one site that is a cut above. As many of you have found out on your own, many of the other sites are heavy in the advertising of either themselves or their products. I'm hoping that this site is more into asking questions as well as communicating fresh ideas to others that have joined. As for me personally, I've written what I guess would be called a romance novel. I can tell you first hand the value of hiring a copy-editor. As many passes (five) as I have made through my novel looking for mistakes of one kind or another, my copy-editor found more than even I care to admit publicly. I know that copy-editing does not usually come cheap, but your writings will be far better for having done it. As for me, it was the best investment so far towards (hopefully) eventual publication. Now comes the hard part -- query letter, proposal, finding an agent, publisher, etc. I'm sure that most of you will agree, writing is the easy part. Welcome all and I look forward to many future discussions.
