I’m a born and bred South African. I have always believed that one is born in a particular country for a reason, and that country provides what is needed to shape you into the person you are supposed to be.
Through my BA degree, majoring in education and English, I have had the experience of teaching students both in a classroom and privately. I have learned as much from my students as they have from me! Receiving motivational and leadership training from well-known speakers and authors, such as Dr Myles Munroe, John Mason, and Charlie “Tremendous” Jones, has also shaped my life.
Having experienced my own life-changing crises, I have been able to support people who are going through crises. It is from these experiences that my books, I Choose Victory and The Question Powerbook came into being
Recently, the issue of girls’ empowerment, that has meant so much to me my entire life, culminated in the Leave No Girl Behind Movement which my sister, Shameema, and I founded. We believe in the power of a woman to impact the world. Women and girls are an untapped resource as well as the people who shape young minds and influence their actions – what enormous power they have! (Please watch the Leave No Girl Behind video).
One of my biggest dreams is to become a naturopathic physician (and then branch out into energy medicine), and make a difference in people’s lives in this way.
I’m grateful to be alive during what I feel is a magical era – we are experiencing so many “world firsts”, and I see so much possibility and hope around me. Oh, and lastly, I’m a Harry Potter fan – I love the series. My mantra has been that you can’t die before you’ve read the Harry Potter series!

This past Saturday has been one of the most exceptional days of my life – that has been my answer when people ask Shameema and I about our Empowered Girl – Empowered World 2012 event that took place. And I don’t say that frivolously. This was truly one of those moments in life when everything had come full circle; when I knew this was the beginning of a new chapter in our lives (I speak for Shameema too here since we discussed this). It was one of those times that we were forced to…

Today is the first U.N. International Day of the Girl Child, and I celebrate that! But today has to be about doing more than celebrating that. Earlier this month, a friend who is a girls' rights activist asked me to write something on behalf of our organization about the importance of the International Day of the Girl Child. This is what I want to share:
"When Shameema and I founded Leave No Girl Behind International, we wanted to give girls some support,…

Today is National Women’s Day in South Africa. While everyone is enjoying the public holiday in the middle of the week, I’m not sure that this day really means something to many South Africans. I get the impression that most people feel that today is about spoiling the women in their lives and celebrating women in our country.
While that in itself is a good gesture, as I see it, Women’s Day is not a celebration. It is a day of remembrance; a day of reminding ourselves…

How do people do it all? It’s a universal challenge – we all have 24 hours in a day and our “To Do List” just doesn’t fit the time constraints. I’ve found myself wondering how people like Oprah Winfrey manage it all. Granted, she has a lot of help, but there are things that only she can do and she manages to do them! Perhaps the answer is in working smart and not necessarily working until you drop.
Of course, I haven’t discovered what it means to work smart when it comes to my…
