You don't have to be a genius to recognize that evil deeds happen, especially when it involves deliberate killing children in the name of G-d. Why do people have the license to be evil?

LOL! The funny thing is that his bet with Gordon was from 2000. But when the LHC is turned on, he doesn't say that he has a bet with Gordon but instead that he has a $100 bet that they won't find the Higgs. That makes it sound like he's looking for someone to take his bet. I heard at least one radio broadcast say the he's bet anyone $100 that they wouldn't find it.

So, I'm just glad I was smart enough to post my acceptance of his bet in a press release so that there'd be a public record of it. Getting the money isn't the important part for me. I just wanted the recognition that I was willing to take his bet and see him by $900 because I knew in my gut that he was wrong because I've caught him being wrong so many other times. The odds were literally in my favor, and I won.

The 4th of July will never be the same for me again...

Marshall, congrats on beating Hawking, at least in principle. After I replied to your comment, I googled that he had lost the earlier bet, so I knew there was more to the story. It is a good thing that you have your offer on record.

It's exciting to think where discovering the Higgs boson (or one that so closely resembles it) will lead us in the future.

It looks like the 4th of July was a memorable day for science as well!

Margaret, I don't think it's possible to form a consensus regarding the meaning of a higher power, even for people who belong to the same belief system/religion. The closest we can get is to perhaps agree that the Creator is a source of Love, though I'm sure many would even dissent to that. The mystery of the ages, even for the most faithful, is why do bad things happen, especially to those who don't seem to deserve it? There are an infinite number of possible answers, but the actual answer may be unacceptable for most people.

That is very true; -Love does exist with every human being as a higher concept.

Have you heard about the ‘Charter for Compassion’? It is an attempt to bring the world together through some defining spiritual attributes that appear to be the most agreed upon. I found out about it on TED talks a few years ago and even tossed my own votes in the hat. I included the link below.

The Charter of Compassion is a cooperative effort to restore not only compassionate thinking but, more importantly, compassionate action to the center of religious, moral and political life. Compassion is the principled determination to put ourselves in the shoes of the other, and lies at the heart of all religious and ethical systems’

As far as bad things happening to good people, I still go with the law of cause and effect, and you’re right-most people would not accept that. But I also feel that we have also lived before this lifetime, many times and carry our karmic responsibilities across lifetimes. So it would therefore appear that we have; personal karma, family karma, group karma and country karma according to our boundaries of experience and awareness with each one.

The trouble with charters and good intentions is that not all of the people agree all of the time. Everyone this side of Oneness has a different experience and therefore opinion. As more people wake up and have a real experience we tend to agree more. The trick is to seek the truth in others experience no matter how deversified. And I guess if we are flexible and mature then dialogue around our "perceived" differences arises and consciousness evolves. If we take the stance that we are "right" or morally superior then communication deteriates into (subtle) power struggle.[Which as we know is a delaying tactic to hide fear ; )]

I have had so many past life experiences that I could not say, "that was me" or, "I am that" I can only say, "That was my experience".

To reach mastery is to realise that we are the world and that it is all our karma! But like you say not many people are willing to be that honest with self to reach a Higher Awareness. To most people life is just a ride. They want to get on and enjoy the ride and don't want the responsibilty when something goes wrong. Obviously it was the ride designers fault! [aka God] lol and not the result of our choosing ;-) even if no-one actually made us get on the ride and swing about until we broke a few taboos!!!!!

The law of cause and affect is total and irrefutable, only most people are not aware of it. That is why bad things happen to good people. Because we have the power to create or deny what we think. "God made man with His Own Likeness" means God made man of His Own Spirit and with similar powers to create. The only way to change the fate of what we create is to change our mind through forgiveness... ie. to LET IT GO. I do not think it is possible that all people will agree on an intellectual notion of what God is, unless everyone has a direct experience with God. In some part of our Mind everyone KNOWS Who God is, although like Jeff says most people are in denial.

Good point Matthew, forgiveness of others’ injustices and of our own does help and I also feel is very healing. It doesn’t stop the karmic effects that are still coming to us, but it does soften the sharpness of the cut or the heaviness of its blow.

I feel that the ‘Charter of Compassion’ tried and successfully so, to find a Spiritual commonality among all peoples of the world and this [I think] points to an idea of ‘godliness’ in each individual and organization through their actions. Would you agree?

Margaret, it depends if you believe in Karma. Forgiveness makes all the difference whether you transcend the lesson easily or if you become crushed by circumstance and have to go round and learn the lesson again from another persective. If you imagine karma is only what we are already doing to ourselves, coming back to us as a lesson. It is not a form of punishment, God being perfect could not by definition hurt His Son or He couldn't be God. But as a human we can create things that might hurts us, or at least we give them power by reacting as if they can. That this thread continues at all is a good example of bad lesson. Indeed this is why the universe tolerates evil. To perceive evil is to propogate evil. To perceive anything at all is not to Know. Which is probably why we like to discuss, to attempt to make the forever unreal, real. To analyse the problem but to ignore the solution. The only real thinking is creative thinking which transcends all notions of good/evil entirely, which still have their roots in duality.

I agree Matthew, that forgiveness does make a difference as to whether or not we have to go thru that lesson again or it has truly been learned and no longer necessary to go through again. No worries here-I know our Karma is not a punishment from God, but just the working out of our own effects coming back to us based on our own causes.

I like what you said about how we can give something power to hurt us that we have created-by acting as though something has the power to hurt us. I might add-one example can also be victim consciousness.  I think it is an interesting phenomenon that human beings are always giving their power away in this way or in another.

I do agree that there is a difference between Knowing and perception. Yet I would like to hear more of your thoughts on it as I feel beings perceive thru all their 5 senses and yet thru the 6th sense can have a ‘Knowing’.

However, I take a different stance on the statement, ‘To perceive evil is to propagate it’.  If you acknowledge that we are in a world of duality, then you must also acknowledge that we are human beings as well as Spiritual beings. If we deny the fact of our human stature, we no longer are thinking individuals. The same fate is true if we deny the fact that we are in the world of effects which necessitates preceding causes. To be able to think and perceive life as it is now, with the awareness of how much better that life can be, is not to propagate evil but to recognize both aspects of ourselves: that we live a world or duality with causes and effects in our life right now and also that we aspire to be more than we are in this moment, hoping for a grander beauty of ourselves to manifest in a future moment.

Hi Margaret,

You confused the issue a bit here: "to be able to think and perceive life as it is now, with the awareness of how much better that life can be, is not to propagate evil but to recognize both aspects of ourselves:" To perceive is not to Know. I did not mean to "perceive" is evil. But to perceive evil is to strengthen its rule in our mind and therefore our world. There are states of mind beyond perception where we lose our awareness of good/evil and see only God and it is All Good. States of Mastery that are so innocent and childlike in wonder that to percieve them at all is to Know Heaven.

Of course we are human, we actually know very little, but we can know things through experience, have moments of Knowledge and of course we have our inner sense of knowing or intuition. To "deny" something simply means to "choose against" and choice is one of the true functions of the mind. Unfortunately most people use denial as a way of trying to repress feelings they do not like thus denying their own healing. Like you say, when we forfeit our right to choose we get into victim traps where we perceive others as doing things to us against our will, which is impossible if our Will is also God's Will.

Good/evil, dark/Light, Spiritual/Material, God/devil, etc... those kind of duality/conflicts run through all major blocks to mastery.

The trick is to realise that in a world of cause and affects, the cause is ALWAYS in the mind and the affects are only there to support our thinking. This is how the masters are able to reverse cause and affect and create miracles. Affects that act by themselves is meaningless. Deny the affects of something and you retrace the cause. Change your mind about anything and you quite literally change your world. Or at least your perception of the world.

If we have a big purpose we also affect the lives of those around us. The Mind of God is our Cause and we are His Affects, causing our own affects and affecting everything in the universe in a kind of co-creative relationship with Self.

Karma is only the affects of what we create (or think about and believe ourself or others deserve) coming back to us as a lesson in forgiveness. If we learn the lesson we heal the world of that lesson. If we created only good things we would look forward to our karma Joyfully!

As humans we are always striving to be somwhere else, in the future or the past, but our only experience in reality is here and now. Everything else we experience is only our projection (or judgment) that taints our perception of heaven. It is not about getting to some future place, it is about letting go of the past and the future to get into the present moment. There is no fear in the present. If the affects we experience are not love then they are not real since God being Only Love could not have created them.

If it isn't Love and Happiness, it isn't the truth we are experiencing, we are just tolerating it for fear of other people's approval. But we could just as easily ask for The Love and choose to be Happy.

I enjoyed reading this post Matthew and would better like to understand where you are coming from. What are your inspirations from-or inspirational readings from?

Hi Margaret, thank you :) I have spent quite a number of years studying A Course in Miracles and teaching it's principles through my Inner Vision Workshops. I also had training with Chuck Spezzano and got a good understanding of the principles from his ground breaking Psychology of Vision healing model. Chuck mapped the levels of the human mind when in Vision. It was also handy having a background in engineering because my interest in advanced technology gave me insight into the workings of the universe form a Spiritual perspective. When I first "became enlightened" I started documenting my psychological breakthroughs which formed the basis of my first three books, only one of which "Enlightenment for Beginners" is published to date. My book in the pitch fest is a more up-to-date book I have been working on about current affairs relating to 2012, that is now complete. I guess I am into everything pyschological/spiritual really but I do not like reading material if it comes from a regimented thought system like religion... it has to be higher mind, visionary and inspired to even get my attention these days. I am also a publisher so I get to read a lot of other peoples books which I find fascinating. I guess the bottom line with all these teachings is that the teachings do not enlighten you, the teachings only help you to understand your own enlightement process. Where am I coming from? Good question! The Mind of God of course :)
