I'm  working on a pretty tight budget. Twenty or twenty five is about the most I can handle.

Thank you for asking for our input!

Maximizing potential with social media, of course. All I see on Twitter are posts pitching books. Any readers actually looking at these? Do these posts create sales?

Hello ALL!  Just getting back involved with WAE.  I have a self-published hardcover children's picture book devoted to educating children on animal care and raising funds & awareness for animal rescues and shelters.  My direct marketing plan is well underway and going very well.  Their are many other avenues for book marketing that currently feel like black holes swallowing me up! I look forward to more information and opportunities for more information through a subscription site.  Definitely let me know as details unfold.   If anyone is interested in more info on my book/project, the website is www.maxnificent.com.

Thanks for organizing this group, right at this time, perfect group, perfect timing. Koehler Books Publishing is launching my new novel Murder in the Rockies in Oct. and Nov. Anyone who has not voted for the cover of my new novel is welcome to put in their two cents worth of opinion. Please vote at: http://www.koehlerbooks.com/2013/03/vote-the-cover-of-g-eldon-smith...

Hi Warren, you raise many great points about ebooks. That is why I will be integrating my self-pub ebook site: offthebookshelf.com with this site. Just as a link as a sister site. We offer free conversion software and do all the heavy lifting. We have referrals to great editors at all ranges. We will also be connected to bookmarketing academy to educate writers whether self-pub or traditionally to avail themselves of digital marketing opportunities. I have been studying at Rutgers and compiling the best information from the leaders in this field to offer in this new subscription network. If I do a monthly subscription all content will be included. The academy is not an author services company. When we have a conference it will be an extra cost but with a discount for members. We are working on having the conference in the Berkshires at a well-known Inn. We have a lot of literary history in this community including Edith Wharton's Mount and Herman Melville's Arrowhead. It is also very beautiful here and close to NYC so we can bring in great speakers. What do you all think about that? We hope you will enjoy this site. Don't lose your passion Warren. Just refocus it to the newest chapter. Welcome.

I've made the decision to no longer try my hand at getting an eBook published on kindle or any other electronic platform. My main interest now is reviewing books and writing short stories. I have joined Fanstory and started a book review site called eFiction Reviews - www.efictionreviews.com

But if I were still in the business of self-publishing eBooks, I would be willing to pay a membership fee of US$50.00 per year for marketing advice from the Book Marketing Academy. When authors choose a service provided by the academy, then additional costs may be incurred.

There are a lot of things to consider when self-publishing on kindle or any other electronic reading device. First, there is getting a reliable and inexpensive editing service to edit your manuscript. Then, the most tiresome, is formatting the manuscript correctly using HTML and XHTML. Sourcing of the cover at a reasonable cost or learning new skills to design one yourself is not easy. When all of that is done, which I consider the easy part, comes the marketing of your work to the public. This is very difficult and a time consuming activity.

I'm sixty six years old now and still recovering from a prostate cancer operation I had in September last year. Since the operation I no longer have the passion for writing novels for children that I used to have. I would now much prefer to write short stories for online e-zines and review Fantasy, Thriller/Mystery and Historical fiction eBooks. I'm not interested in romance novels or non-fiction.

I think the Book Marketing Academy is a good idea and has the potential to be quite beneficial to authors seeking publication in any format. Self-publishing, in my opinion, is going to become the mainstream form of publishing in the future. Authors, who embrace it and learn about all facets of the writing business, will place themselves in a good position ten years from now. But, as with all success stories these authors must have the passion to live and breathe the writing business every day. The Book Marketing Academy can provide the tools; it's the individual who must provide the passion.

I no longer have it, and have chosen a quieter literary path.
