Comment by Bev Gandara on May 7, 2012 at 3:50pm Thanks, Geoff:
Nicholl and Austin are both well respected contests and will bring your work attention as you place.
Best wishes.

Comment by Geoff Kendrick on May 7, 2012 at 2:59pm Beverly,
Congratulations are in order. Wow, what an incredible honor! I just entered my screenplay into the Nicholl and Austin Film Festival competition's. I'm just hope to make at least one round of cuts and get some exposure. I will check out the withoutabox.com website and take a look. Again, job-well-done on your victory!
Regards,
Geoff Kendrick
Comment by Bev Gandara on May 6, 2012 at 3:12pm But that's okay. My winning screenplay takes place in 1965! There's an audience for every genre and time period. Have a good day.
Comment by Lynn Garthwaite on May 6, 2012 at 2:59pm Since you mentioned Withoutabox a couple of posts back I already searched it out and signed up. I had never heard of that before and am excited to see that there is one place that is a resource for all of those contests and festivals. I'll look at InkTip too - but re-reading my old scripts recently I don't see any that don't need major updating to make them viable again. Heck - in one romantic comedy I had someone scrambling to find a phone booth when a medical crisis happened. Clearly that was written in a different technology age. :o)
Comment by Bev Gandara on May 6, 2012 at 2:41pm How wonderful that you can do both; they are clearly different skill sets. You might consider listing your completed scripts on InkTip. It's $10.00 per month per script, 6 month minimum subscription per script. Stage 32 is a fairly new and good networking site and Linked In has several screenwriter groups within its network. WIthoutabox lists all the upcoming contests and film fests and makes it easy to enter through their site. Good luck - sounds like you have a treasure trove of good works.
Comment by Lynn Garthwaite on May 6, 2012 at 2:22pm I'm just so excited for you. I am a published author of children's books, but I would love to get back to screenwriter where I started this journey about 25 years ago. Over the course of several years I wrote seven scripts and even got a couple of nibbles from a producer, but never had anything produced or even optioned. When I set it all aside to focus on raising my kids I always assumed I'd get back to it.
Now after some success in the book publishing world I feel empowered to dust off that screenwriter in me. I have six pages of notes on a new story that I want to play with for a while to see if it's got "it." I'll be eager to hear what happens with your script.
Comment by Bev Gandara on May 6, 2012 at 2:14pm Hi Lynn:
Thanks for your kind words.
I joined Withoutabox.com which lists all festivals and contests. While I have been actively writing screenplays for several years, I didn't start to market them until last year by networking with writers' sites and entering screenwriting contests and film festivals which have screenwriting contests attached such as the Beverly Hills Film Fest. Keep in mind these are Film Festivals (no membership required but there are fees for entry) so the focus is on completed films and film makers. Just placing clearly opens doors and my work has received great attention. I'll let you know what happens.
Kindest regards,
Beverly
Comment by Lynn Garthwaite on May 6, 2012 at 1:54pm Bev - that is absolutely fantastic news! Huge congratulations to you, and I'd love to hear the follow-up. I assume your script was immediately swept up by a studio? You're an inspiration to us all.
I'm going to have to keep an eye out for the call for next year's submissions. Was it a standard open call, or do you have to have a membership in the festival?
Comment by Bev Gandara on May 6, 2012 at 1:04pm Thank you, John.
It was! I recommend attending one if possible, simply because it places you among creative people who share and understand your journey. Competition aside, it's a supportive environment. The lesson for me is to never give up.
Let me know what you are working on.
Kindest regards,
Beverly
