As an agent, I sometimes receive submissions about weird stuff that the writer insists is actually true, but would never be accepted as "real" and therefore must be presented as sci-fi. Do you think that a lot of sci-fi books are actually non-fiction? Jeff Herman

But you do have a point that some has been turned into SciFi just to get an audience, imo.

Too bad it has to be turned into SciFi. Wierdness is interesting in and of itself. I never really considered the Fantasy books I read to have any basis in reality.

Possibly.  A lot of science fiction becomes fact.  Whether it is fact before the first word is written, may, or may not be known by the author.
