Comment by Jhena Plourde on September 11, 2012 at 11:55am "Cartooning the Head and Figure" by Jack Hamm. There is a two-page spread of every facial expression you can imagine. My illustrations are mostly sketches but I got some great ideas from there about body languages, expression, and the trickier aspects of drawing people, like their hands and noses.
Comment by Jhena Plourde on August 31, 2012 at 12:45pm It's so hard when I create an illustration that I think would be perfect for someone's book, and they don't want to use it. I get attached to those quick sketches!
Comment by LOU LOU B.A.Hons , Dipl on July 25, 2012 at 1:50pm Hi Deborah,
What about making a collection of spiritual paintings, maybe trying some abstract with realism to express your emotions and visions of the spirit and angelic world.
Inks are fun to work with as you can paint and have fine detail. Fabric painting.
Water colours are expressive and delicate, or mixed media.
What paintings do you do ? and what medium do you use ?

Comment by Kerry St. Laurent on December 22, 2011 at 7:00pm I work in watercolor, ink, and colored pencil for my illustrations and my "fine art" work uses all sorts of media including acrylic, gold leaf and wood burning. I enjoy working on Yupo, a polyurethane paper that helps me create a lot of movement with the paint. Here's a work-in-progress:
Deborah, I'd recommend you experiment with watercolor... it could give you the organic airiness and sense of light you might want for that particular theme. Other paint could come across as too heavy, depending on how you use it. :)
Comment by Deborah Herman on December 22, 2011 at 6:39pm I hope to see some of your work. I love to work with colored pencil and pen. I have used my work to create an oracle deck. I don't know the next step. Any ideas?
