ARE YOU (WERE YOU EVER) DETERMINED TO WRITE THE NEXT GREAT AMERICAN NOVEL?

After all, it's a tough job but someone has got to do it.

No, just one of the next great Australian novels. Done it once. Will do it again.

I've worked on my novel "Before the Rooster Crows" for ten years and it's close to completion with editing. It's the hardest thing I think I've ever done, but to me, It's a DOOZY.

And is is as eligible as any to be "The One"!

Hi Jeff, If you're referring to mine, yes, I think it is. I hope it will be the one.

Thanks, Pat

You!

Thanks again Jeff, You're very kind.

Every writer I know would love to write the next Great American Novel and I'm no exception. :)

Although my writing will probably never be considered great, I would like to write a novel that people remember and say "hey that was pretty good." If that's the same thing, then yes, I would.

I am pouring my heart and soul into my book. It's taken me ten years to even believe I have the capability to write a story worth reading, but now that the book is starting to snowball and the characters seem to be developing themselves, I have so much more confidence. It may not be the next great American novel, but when it's all said and done, I am going to be extremely proud of the work I poured into it. I finally realized that I didn't choose to write this book, it chose me. With that in mind, I am moving forward in confidence and with the hope that someday others will read and appreciate the story.

It's really intimidating to put yourself out there like this! :)

But well worth it all when you see your novel in print.

Kelli, I sooooo agree with what you have to say. Your comment mirrors how I feel and what I've experienced as well. My novel has taken me ten years to write, and for a long time, I thought I was the only writer ever to take so long to write it. It's always good to know other "great writers" take a long time to complete a story. Let's continue to believe we've written the next greatest novel.

Actually, I would prefer the Canadian novel! <grin>

But having said that, I've recently edited a novel by a new writer whose book could definitely be classified as a great American novel, but as yet she has not found a publisher.
