A Jewish friend and I have spent a thousand hours and a million words dialoguing about our faiths, have found much that is the same (which we would have assumed was different) and much that is different (which we would have assumed was the same). e.g., she taught me the difference between orthodoxy and orthopraxy. We've talked about the different views about angels (e.g., it's her opinion that if Judaism officially believed in personal guardian angels, we'd all be required to pray for them, whereas Catholics are more prone to asking their guardian angels for favors and prayers).  

I find that kind of interfaith conversation positively fascinating and it really stimulates growth. I believe both of us intensified our devotion to God because of that long and open exchange. :-)

To Jeff - You have not offended me!!! I have been super busy with web designs and contract work and have not been able to take time to respond to some of your very thought provoking topics.

Would some of these same topics offend some Christians I met - probably. But then you can't please everybody. GRIN Nor should anyone try.

The genre of Christian literature be it fiction or non-fiction is growing because those who write for it are trying to improve their craft and not preach to the choir as much. These are difficult issues to deal with and hard to change in one's writing. It's a true paradigm shift.

When I have time I plan to start some of this conversation in the Christian Writer's Discussion forum.

So please don't stop your very thought provoking questions. I rather like seeing them. They make me think.

To put it succinctly - G-d brings the Jewish faith and the Christian faith together because we worship the same G-d. We all know the difference which separates these two religions. 

However, the Bible I read clearly states the decedents of Abraham as the chosen people of G-d. I think you have a lot to say to Christians being of that lineage.

Regarding Jeff Herman's message, my take is, Jesus was a good Jew and respected rabbi until the day he died.  He was a troublemaker, like a lot of other good people.  If, as a Christian I want to write about a Jew, whether its Jesus or Moses, I don't expect to give offense.  If Christians had never been able to get along with and talk with people from any other religions, then our group of faith would have never caught on in the world of ideas.  So from me to anybody of any other religion, or no religion, write whatever you want about Jesus or anybody else.  If it is thoughtful, honest, and well written, I hope it gets read.

Writing fiction can be just a difficult and personal as writing non fiction because it requires you to relate the human experience, except from a general truth, and not a bold non fiction truth.

I find I am revealing more of myself in writing fiction that from the interviews I did when I wrote non fiction. 

That said - I am having a blast - in both the writing and the obfuscating of the Bible truths in my fiction.
