Comment by Suzanne Kamata on July 17, 2012 at 10:27pm Congratulations & good luck!! (I guess that means I wasn't a finalist, because I also applied for an SCBWI grant and heard nothing, but I look forward to hearing about your experiences.)
Congratulations and good luck!
Comment by Todd Edward Dillard on July 17, 2012 at 3:59pm Hey everyone! I just got word that I'm a finalist for an SCBWI grant! I should hear back this week if I got it, then I'll post something about the experience. Wish me luck!
Comment by Todd Edward Dillard on June 5, 2012 at 9:59am Hey comrades,
I'm starting a kickstarter campaign/online publishing experiment, trying to test out the demand of the children's poetry market with an ebook of Shel Silverstein-style poems. The plan's to pen 99 poems, have them illustrated, then price the book between $.99 and $2.99 and see how well it sells. If you're interested in checking it out, link jump here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/651892883/where-the-windwalk-be....
Also, if you have any questions or want any updates about the project, don't hesitate to shoot me a PM or add a comment here. I'll also post updates on my twitter: @toddedillard
Thanks, and wish me luck!

Comment by Warren Arthur Thurston on May 15, 2012 at 9:15am Hello Martha Bourke,
Do you still require a reviewer for your book Jaguar Sun?
I review books for "Aussie Authors" and "Love of Books" here in Australia.
Your book sounds interesting and I would like to review it. You can send a PDF version of it to my email address: warren.thurston@gmail.com
It will take me three to four weeks to get the review to you.

Comment by Tom Flood on April 16, 2012 at 5:28pm Well, Jill, it's a good length for a children's PB and sounds perfect but we can't really know unless we read it.
As to an illustrator, publishers always like to hold the reins in order to partner (relative) fame and experience with freshness and inexperience. That begs the question who is the publisher? If it's you, then you are empowered to make that choice. Anyway we constantly see self-chosen writer/illustrator teams hitting the stands. Why not pursue all paths simultaneously?
Comment by Jill Celeste on April 16, 2012 at 2:42pm I have a specific question about whether a book I have written is appropriate to be submitted under the Children/YA category.
My project is a picture book, "Augusta's Garden" 30 pages (still needs an illustrator). It is sort of a Spiritual / New Age book with pictures. It illustrates through words and pictures the spiritual principle that......our thoughts are like seeds, our life is our garden.....and we have the power to choose what we plant and nurture.
Adults who have read the story Love it for themselves and have seen it as a gift or inspirational book. I feel our children are ready to learn these spiritual principles too and that the simple metaphor and beautiful illustrations may mean it belongs in the Children's category.... I am open to suggestions as to whom to query with this project.
Also is it best to let the publisher pick an illustrator? Or should I hook up with one that has my vision for the book's illustrations, before I query?

Comment by Aya Katz on April 10, 2012 at 12:38pm Rowena, I think there will always be a market for historical fiction for children and young adults. Elizabeth George Speare still sells very well today.
